Customer Experience

Carin & Cato Gaaikema's Arable Farm in Houwerzijl.

The Gaaikema family had an Ecoways EAZ-model turbine installed and combined it with 25 kWp of solar panels.

"We now save a lot on our energy bills without having to worry about it".

Farm windmill for fruit growing

The Gaaikema family has an almost 90-acre farm in northern Groningen, with seed potatoes as its main crop. The site's average energy consumption is 48,000 kWh per year.

For Carin and Cato, a small wind turbine combined with some solar panels was the perfect solution.

Milk production impact

Milk production has an impact on energy consumption. About 65,000 kWh are consumed per year on the farm. The cows are milked with two milking robots, so there is a very stable energy consumption both during the day and at night. Thus, a solution was needed that could supply the farm with renewable energy continuously around the clock.

EAZ Wind provided this solution by supplying a farm mill in combination with solar panels.

Wind in winter, sun in summer.

"We use electricity for preserving our potatoes. This takes place mainly in the winter period, so a wind turbine was a better fit than solar panels. The windmill is always running, day and night. We now save considerably on our energy bill without having to worry about it."

Wind & solar

You cannot be self-sufficient with solar energy alone. That requires wind energy as well. With a small windmill you supply your farm with energy in the winter months, solar panels provide the necessary support in the summer months.

We generally see the best results with the combination of 2/3 wind and 1/3 solar.

We have our own power year-round and we think that's something special.

Own power all year round.

"Gradually you get wiser and wiser and we recognized that a few solar panels would be a good addition for the days when the wind goes down for a while. This gives us our own power all year round and we think that's something special."
