A WES small-scale wind turbine was installed on this dairy farm in Beltrum, the Netherlands (province of Gelderland).
The owners’ goal: to become independent from fluctuating and rising energy prices, and to make their farm more sustainable.
A small wind turbine typically consists of five main parts: the foundation, mast, gondel with hub, rotor blades, and the control cabinet.
During the installation on the farm, the weather was typically Dutch - light rain and grey skies.
Construction began with the foundation and progressed step by step through all main components.
The wind turbine in Beltrum has a hub height of 25 meters. The 24-meter-long mast consists of two parts that were joined together directly on site.
The entire upper section of the turbine is called the gondel. This includes the hub with rotor blades and the generator housing.
Pre-assembly took place in the WES factory hall in Spanbroek, North Holland.
On site, the gondel, hub, and blades were joined together.
Electrical components, such as the top box, were also prepared on the ground and then connected to the cabling inside the tower.

You can't be self-sufficient with just solar energy. Wind energy is also needed. With a small windmill you can supply your farm with energy in the winter months, while solar panels provide the necessary power in the summer months.
Wij zien over het algemeen de beste resultaten met de combinatie van 2/3 wind en 1/3 zon.
Everything comes together in the control cabinet: the cabling, power supply, data connection, and link to the farm, the grid, and the internet.
The weather during construction was rough! A big hand for the team that successfully installed the turbine under these conditions.
Our WES small-scale wind turbines have only two rotor blades, which means installation requires just one crane. The hub and blades are pre-assembled on the ground and then lifted onto the tower as a single unit.
